MediKredit will be issuing 7 digit Nappi codes (10 digits including the pack size suffix) from 1 March
2018. This affects all providers and administrators and has been driven as an industry initiative by
MediKredit.
Medscheme has done the necessary systems impact analyses and systems development to
accommodate the extension of the Nappi codes across all systems. Extensive testing has been
performed including testing with third party providers such as hospital groups, other administrators
and hubs and switches. The scope of testing included loading the new MediKredit file, creation of
authorisations, receipt of, and processing of claims.
For noting is that MediKredit will be changing their 6 digit Nappi codes to a 7 digit Nappi code by
adding a leading zero. On the Medscheme systems the original 6 digit Nappi codes will still reflect
as 6 digits and only the new 7 digit Nappi codes will reflect with 7 digits. The design of the system
solution has considered existing processes, authorisations and the way in which claims will be
received in order to remove any service issues such as having to re-issue authorisations.
The new 7/10 digit nappi codes will be loaded from the MediKredit file into all Medscheme systems
and applications. The operational teams will not be affected by this change and reporting will
continue to be provided as per current processes.
